Go ‘Green’ with your wedding invitations

One of my favorite designers right now is Oblation Papers.  Not only do they have exquisite patterns and designs, but their letterpress wedding invitations are printed on recycled cotton handmade paper that they produce in their urban paper mill. Here are a few favorites:

Of course, there are ways to go green with your wedding invitations, even if you don’t pick a 100% recycled paper.

-At Leap Frog Paper, we always provide proofs produced via electronic delivery (.pdf).  Our customers can share the files with their friends and family without printing.ne

-Choose cotton paper.  Crane and William Arthur both have 100% cotton papers.  While they aren’t “recycled paper,” they are eco-friendly.

-Choose the letterpress method, or soy-based inks.  Letterpressing requires much less ink, and the papers are often hand-fed.
-Skip the fancy shopping bag.  At Leap Frog Paper, we leave your wedding ensemble in the box it arrived in, rather than transporting everything to a shopping/gift bag.  We find that your invitations are safer in a box, protected from damage.
-Skip the double envelopes, liners and layers.  If your guest list isn’t too complicated, you may be able to eliminate the inner envelope.  Not only will you save costs when you use a simple envelope, you will also reduce the amount of paper you use. This goes for liners and layers, too….less paper, less cost, less impact on the environment!
-If you have multiple events during your wedding weekend, try to combine invitations and response cards.  Rather than sending a separate invitation to the rehearsal dinner, the wedding, AND the morning brunch, opt to make a “wedding weekend’ invitation and rsvp card.  Then, instead of 3 invitations and 3 response cards, you only have 1.
